With our huge inventory of new, used and rental equipment, WesTrac has the right machine for the job.
Newmont will invest around $150 million to install a new fleet of 793F autonomous trucks and convert a number of existing units. This is expected to further extend the mine life through improved efficiencies and will be the first use of this technology in a gold application.
WesTrac’s technology credentials will be on show as the local team responsible for executing all technology installation, commissioning and maintenance work for the Newmont fleet.
“We are excited to be part of the Boddington project and to partner with Caterpillar to deliver ground breaking equipment solutions to support Newmont in this first installation for the gold industry,” said Jarvas Croome, WesTrac Chief Executive Officer.
“Safety is a key driver in Newmont’s investment and the rigorous safety controls on the fleet will reduce employee exposure to potential vehicle interactions. AHS operations have an uncompromised safety record in the mining industry with no injuries being recorded since their introduction.”
In addition to the 800 skilled technicians spread across their WA operations, WesTrac also has a dedicated team of over 80 Machine Control and Guidance Technicians on hand to support the growing demand for autonomous technology across the region.
WesTrac recently announced the opening of the Collie Autonomous Training Facility that will further support customers across Western Australia, with the upskilling of workforces to effectively deploy and maintain this technology.
“WesTrac have a long-standing commitment to advancing expertise and growth in our industry through the continued operation of the WesTrac Institute, helping to ensure our technicians remain amongst the highest skilled across WA and well equipped to meet future customer demand.”
Boddington is Western Australia’s largest gold producer, delivering 709,000 ounces of gold and 77 million pounds of copper in 2018. The mine directly employs approximately 2,000 people and is located 135 kilometres southeast of Perth in Western Australia.
