VisionLink® takes the guess work out of fleet management

For years, WesTrac and Caterpillar ® have been revolutionising fleet management with cutting-edge software solutions, letting earthmoving customers control their entire fleets from the palm of their hand. As WesTrac Technology Specialist Jason Sydenham explains, the Cat® VisionLink® suite delivers powerful, far-reaching benefits to earthmoving professionals across Australia.

Caterpillar’s VisionLink software has been a game changer for fleet management. I always recommend it to anyone in the industry seeking a more efficient approach to managing their fleet

VisionLink is a powerful tool designed for all types of earthmoving customers (construction and mining), capable of monitoring entire fleets - both Cat brand and non-Cat brand equipment - while managing productivity, safety, and maintenance.

With real-time data and cost-saving analytics, it provides clear insights into machine performance, boosting productivity, efficiency, and profitability. It also tracks equipment health and maintenance needs, keeping fleets running smoothly and maximising uptime.

VisionLink goes beyond monitoring your machines. If a machine with VisionLink is stolen, VisionLink may help with recovery. For instance, when a Cat 249D Skid Steer Loader was stolen from MTS Hire & Sales, WesTrac's Technology Team used VisionLink to track its exact location, providing crucial details to assist the police in recovering the machine.

While theft recovery isn’t the goal for every customer, this highlights one of VisionLink's strengths: real-time data accessible from your phone or computer, delivering critical insights right to your hand.

For companies like MDM Mining and Civil, with a fleet of 20 Cat machines operating in remote areas, VisionLink acts as a second set of eyes. When a fault arises, the team can instantly assess its severity and take immediate action, minimising downtime.

Since joining WesTrac in February 2024 as a Technology Specialist, I’ve seen how VisionLink consistently benefits construction and mining companies, no matter their size.

WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?

VisionLink offers four subscription options tailored to meet the needs of any earthmoving business, from small companies to large operations. Each subscription helps improve fuel efficiency, reduce idle time, and boost profitability with varying levels of data monitoring.

The free Connect plan is the most basic option, providing core telematics on fuel use and maintenance, helping businesses control costs. Connect Pro is the next level up and incorporates enhanced and more robust features like geo-fencing for asset tracking.

Performance offers deeper data analysis and frequent reporting to optimise efficiency and production, while the top of range package Performance Pro delivers the most detailed insights to achieve productivity and efficiency goals.

Subscriptions can be tailored to specific machines. For instance, a high-use loadout machine might need Performance Pro, while a small two-tonne machine might only require the basic Connect option. Flexibility allows businesses to upgrade as needed.

VisionLink Productivity and Sustainability

VisionLink Productivity is designed for high-value assets, providing a complete overview of machine performance, location, payload, and fuel burn. By summarising site costs and trends, it helps inform key business decisions and sustainability efforts.

More earthmoving companies are now focusing on sustainability, particularly in tracking CO2 emissions. VisionLink gives a clear view of fleet usage, fuel consumption, and idle time, leading to more efficient operations.

By integrating with WesTrac’s broader ESG Sustainability strategy, VisionLink not only optimises fleet performance but also plays a pivotal role in helping earthmoving companies meet their sustainability targets.

This powerful tool provides you with valuable data at your fingertips to help you make important business decisions faster. The data you receive includes essential metrics such as fuel consumption, idle time, and carbon emissions. By leveraging this data, you’ll actively reduce your environmental footprint while boosting operational efficiency and driving effective operational cost management.

This aligns perfectly with ESG goals by promoting responsible use of machinery and fostering long-term sustainability strategies. With the ability to monitor fleet activity remotely, VisionLink also helps reduce unnecessary travel and onsite visits, cutting down on CO2 emissions associated with transport logistics.

In the context of sustainability, VisionLink empowers construction and mining companies to visualise their progress over time, setting measurable goals for energy reduction and resource conservation. It serves not only as a performance optimiser but also as a key component in driving the industry toward greener, more sustainable practices.

In fact, trained customers have reduced idle time by more than 12 per cent, saving time, resources, and money.

VisionLink is available for iOS, Android and desktop PCs for flexibility of use. The app connects customers to their dealer and offers resources like troubleshooting guides and user manuals.

At WesTrac, we bring the best Cat technology to help earthmoving companies manage operations more efficiently and sustainably. As sustainability grows in importance, we're ready to support the industry in BUILDING BETTER TOGETHER.
