WesTrac nominated Large Employer of the Year for industry leading training in Australia

WesTrac WA has been recognised for its nomination for the Large Employer of the Year during an award ceremony for the 2024 Australian Training Awards in Canberra.

Leading Caterpillar® dealer WesTrac WA has been recognised for its nomination the Large Employer of the Year during an award ceremony for the 2024 Australian Training Awards in Canberra on Friday night. The prestigious award recognises WesTrac as a large, registered training organisation that has achieved excellence in the provision of nationally recognised training to their employees. WesTrac delivers industry-leading training via its purpose-built WesTrac Institute, which has been operating for more than 30 years, and the Technology Training Centre in Collie – the only autonomous training centre in the Southern Hemisphere.

WesTrac WA CEO Jarvas Croome said the nomination reflected the dedication the organisation has to ensuring employees have the right skills and cutting-edge tools to achieve success for its customers. “It is vital that our people are armed with the best knowledge to help our customers succeed in their operations, which is why we are committed to delivering training programs and courses that are aligned with real-life work environments,” Jarvas said. “WesTrac is honoured to be nominated the Large Employer of the Year Award, recognising this commitment to upskilling the heavy equipment workforce in Western Australia through our training and education opportunities.”

Jarvas said WesTrac was consistently improving and updating its training opportunities for industry, including the recent expansion of facilities at the WesTrac Technology Training Centre and arrival of a new Cat® machine for the curriculum. “Just last month, we welcomed a Cat D10 Dozer to this state-of-the-art facility, joining the existing Cat 789D Autonomous Haul Truck, empowering attendees to use the latest machines, equipment and technology during their training,” Jarvas explained.

“We are also on track with construction of two new buildings, which will provide an additional five new training rooms, a Virtual Reality room, a Remote Operating Station room, reception, and labs tailored to deliver training in Cat MineStar Technology“As a leading supplier of machines and equipment to industry, we remain committed to delivering high quality training, as demonstrated by our track record of educating more than 1,300 people through our wide range of courses and programs.”

WesTrac’s General Manager of People and Community Kylie Newton and Head of Learning and Development Jeremy Manuel attended the Australian Training Awards ceremony on behalf of the organisation.

In September, WesTrac (WA) was awarded WA Large Employer of the Year for 2024, acknowledging the success of nearly 8,000 training sessions delivered to WesTrac employees and external customers. The award also recognised WesTrac’s in-demand apprenticeship program, dedicated to upskilling the next generation of leaders in the mining, construction, forestry, agriculture and transport workforces.
